Crimson and Clover

I just happened to swing by Target today and remembered that the new Prince 3-CD set Lotus Flow3r is only available there. $11.98 for a physical cd set is kind of hard to beat, and I still can't bring myself to buy mp3s. One day I'll probably get an itunes account, but until then, I'll continue buying CDs and finding music through myspace/youtube/concerts.

Listening through the Lotus Flow3r disc is a joy. Clearly the guitar reigns supreme. I especially liked "Crimson and Clover" and "Dreamer" first time through. Fans of Tommy James And The Shondells, please don't hate me for being ignorant that "Crimson and Clover" is a cover. I wasn't born back when the song was made popular. After wiki and youtube, I found the original. I hope you give the Prince cover a listen, too. Simple, funky, colorful, and enough variations to make your ears happy and take your brain on a trip. I wonder if Prince will make a video for this song even though it's a cover. Funny interpretations of the song here.

You can also watch Prince on Leno (performance is around minute 38): Wednesday March 25 here, Thursday March 26 here.

Crimson and Clover
Oh.
Now, I don't hardly know her.
But, I think I could love her.
Crimson and clover.

Ah.
I wish she'd come walking over.
I'm waiting to show her.
Crimson and clover,
Over and over.

Yes. (da-da da-da da-da)
My, my, such a sweet thing. (da-da da-da da-da)
I want to do everything. (da-da da-da da-da)
What a beautiful feeling. (da-da da-da da-da)
Crimson and clover, (da-da da-da da-da)
Over and over.

Crimson and clover, over and over.
